All the Pretty Stockings

by Michelle

Christmas stockings are hard. I love to decorate for Christmas, but I don’t like to veer too far from my normal style. And stockings tend to be very over the top with the wintery and holiday themes. Santa! Snowman! Reindeer! It’s all too much. So, I’ve made a list of some of my favorite stockings that feel holiday appropriate without making you compromise your home style.

Kilim Stockings

When I saw Kilim stockings online, it felt like my home, but now seasonal and Christmas-appropriate; let’s just call it Yuletide Adjacent. However, the first Kilim stockings I saw were like $125, and that’s just stupid expensive for something that’s in storage for 48 weeks every year, so I did some internet sleuthing for a better deal.

Etsy, per usual, came to the rescue with Kilim stockings in the $14-$18 range. There were a bunch of different stores selling Kilim stockings, but I really like them from Kilim Pillow Kingdom. A lot of style they have on their website are waitlisted, so below are my favorite that are currently in stock. These all compliment each other, so you can mix and match across these three collections. There are more great styles, so if these sell out, check the rest out:

The first stocking collection is available here, the middle here, and the last here.

Hand Knotted Stockings:

So, these stockings from CB2 feel very similar to the above kilims, which makes sense because they’re a handknotted wool, like a traditional kilim rug. However, these stockings may better satisfy someone who wants one pattern for all of their stockings, or prefer a longer, skinnier sock look. I love that they come in both a neutral-ish cream and a festive red. I probably wouldn’t mix the two, but you totally can.

Sheepskin Stockings

I LOVE these stockings from The Citizenry, and I might be willing to spend $95 on them simply because they’re so awesome. They’re neutral and timeless. They’re perfect for a simple mantel, or for a highly decorated mantel that doesn’t require an ornate stocking. I love the simple texture. Buy them.

Felt Stockings

Want the texture of those sheepskin stockings at a better price? I’ve got you covered. These simple felt stockings from West Elm are perfect in their simplicity, and heavy enough that they’ll hang uniformly from the mantle. They also come in a traditional red, but I prefer these. And the price: $30.

Tie-Dyed Stockings

Pantone is going to declare some lame color as the color of the year, but we all know that it wasn’t one particular color but a tie-dyed hodgepodge of 2020 madness instead. These tie-dyed stockings from CB2 feel very 2020, but in a good way, and they’re neutral enough to be used year after year. I can totally see these being hung on a concrete fireplace in a cool New York loft, or in a masculine study with a fireplace. Love.

Mud Cloth Stockings

Mud cloth was all the rage a few years ago, but it’s one of those fabrics that will always be having a moment. The Citizenry sells the prettiest mud cloth stockings that are completely sold out this holiday season, so I went on Etsy to see if there were any comparable stockings to be found.

These gorgeous mud cloths stockings were the product of my search, and they’re amazing. I love that they can be customized with family member’s names, and the name label is totally adorable. They also have a lovely Batik print that is equally gorgeous.

That’s it for me. Happy Holiday Shopping!
