THE HIGH/LOW STAPLE EDIT

by Michelle

Lately, I’ve seen a lot of great staples with similar aesthetics at different price points, so I wanted to share some of them. The great thing about this edit is that you can mix and match high and low pieces. Maybe you decided to go with the more expensive paper-bag waist jeans but the Target espadrilles. Or, save all the money and just buy the inexpensive alternatives.

White Blouse

There’s nothing in your wardrobe that’s more versatile than a white blouse. Dress it down with jeans or sweatpants, or up with a skirt or under a dress. These two picks are a riff on the traditional white blouse with those oversized pockets, but at two very different price points:

Left: Frame Silk Blouse, $295; Right: Zara Flowy Blouse, $49.90.

White Velcro Sneaker

I know expensive, distressed sneakers are a thing right now, but for me NOTHING beats a clean white sneaker. I’m into velcro sneakers lately, so here are four great white velcro sneakers at all the price points:

Top Left: Veja 3-Lock Sneakers, $130; Top Right: Isabel Marant Beth Sneakers, $385; Bottom Left: Gola Coaster Sneakers, $65; Botton Right: SENSO Adrianna Sneakers, $199.

Army Sweatpants

I purchased those expensive James Perse army green sweatpants at a charity event at one of my favorite local stores, Fado in Katonah, New York, and they quickly became a wardrobe staple. Go up a size for a cool, slouchy look. I’ve paired them with a similar yet less expensive pair by Joie, made even less expensive because they’re on final sale.

Left: James Perse Mixed Media Pants, $245; Right: Joie Dominque Pants, currently $45.

Blush Ballet Flats

I’ve waxed poetic about those Mansur Gavriel flats a gazillion times. Not into the price or the ability to monogram? Those Schutz ballet flats are gorgeous and a third of the price.

Left: Mansur Gavriel Dream Ballerina Flats, $375; Right: Schutz Arissa Flats, $120.

Light Wash Paperbag Denim

My birthed-two-humans body loves a high waist, and I love paperbag jeans. These are two similar styles are both in a lighter wash but at two VERY different price points.

Left: Bassike Jeans, $450; Right: Zara Jeans, $39.90

Dark Wash Jeans

I wear a lot of slouchy jeans these days, but there is nothing more flattering than a skinny, dark-wash jean. Here are my two favorite brands for skinny jeans: AG and Madewell, with Madewell about 30 percent less expensive. Both are more expensive than, say, Zara or Target, but their fits are superlative for their price points.

Left: Madewell Mid-Rise Skinny Jeans, $135; Right: AG Farrah Skinny Ankle Jeans, $198.

Pleated Bucket Bag

I have a Mansur Gavriel pleated bucket bag and it’s one of those items in my wardrobe that people always stop and ask about; surprisingly, it’s often men who comment on how great it is. However, it’s expensive, and has gotten more expensive than when I purchased it. Zara is making a cute, SUPER inexpensive alternative right now that I love.

Left: Mansur Gavriel Pleated Bucket Bag, $795; Right: Zara Pleated Bucket Bag, $29.90

Neutral Espadrille Sandals

I good espadrille can take you through the entire summer and is versatile enough to wear with everything. These are two great options. Neither is crazy expensive, but those Target ones are such a great deal.

Left: Soludos Ali Sport Sandal, $129; Right: Target Rianna Sandal, $29.99.

That’s it! If you’d like to see more posts like this, leave a heart above the comments.
