Hi, friends! I’m Michelle and this is The Style Commune. Welcome.
So, the vitals: I’m a thirty-something mom of two and wife of one. I was an attorney in my former life, but these days I’m at home with the kiddos. As my children are starting to get a bit more independent, I’m delving back into my own interests again.
I’m starting this blog (with corresponding Instagram page, @thestylecommune) for one simple reason: style should be accessible for all, but it doesn’t always feel that way.
I’m a firm believer in dressing for the life and body you have today. We’ve all kicked the style can down the road, thinking, If Only I Were X Pounds Thinner or If Only I Had a Bigger Budget. And, I think we do ourselves a huge disservice, assuming some future version of us will be more worthy of attention and self-care than this current iteration. I want you to come here, knowing you’re good enough as you are, and figure out exactly what will help you feel more confident. Because, in the end, that’s all fashion is meant to do: to make you feel confident and bold. And if it’s not doing that for you, it’s not worth doing.
Home decor and personal style aren’t always combined in social media and on the blogosphere, but, to me, they go hand-in-hand. The things you put in your home, much like the clothes you put on yourself, should reflect your style and preferences. So much of creating a space is knowing where to shop and figuring out how to put things together within your budget. But, it can feel really intimidating compared to personal style, because most of us have been able to cultivate a look over a lifetime, but we don’t really start thinking about making a house into a home until we’re full-fledged adults. After a major home renovation, where I worked with professionals who taught me so much about home design and decor, I feel like I’m in a good place to help you find your own point of view.
Accessibility will translate often into affordability. However, I’ll also present items that are worth spending a few extra bucks on. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve gotten more adventurous in my style choices, and I’m hoping that I can show you ways to have fun and take risks while dressing and decorating for the life you have.
More than anything, this place is meant to be a community. I don’t want this to be me typing away into the internet ether, but instead to be a conversation between us. Always tell me what I need to do better, and I’ll always be open to content suggestions. If you’re so inclined, I’d love for you to guest blog on subjects that matter to you, including those that fall outside the style rubric. Feel free to drop me a line.
Thanks so much for visiting. I hope you come again and often.
