FRIDAY FASHION FINDS: The Resort Edit, Part I

by Michelle

Every March, our family travels to Anguilla, and it’s the highlight of my year. I obviously love a week away from the frigid New York temps, and enjoy the sun and sand, but I love resortwear just as much as all that. When it comes to women’s resort fashion, anything goes. I love that you’ll see some women going all out in full-on gowns and glorious caftans, while others are super casual and laid back. I’ve tried to satisfy all of you with this edit.

There are two categories that I intentionally left out of the resort edit that might seem counterintuitive. The first is swimwear. Why? Because I think swimwear is really difficult to edit for a wide variety of body types. I am pear shaped with a long torso and I know what works for me (high-waisted bottoms, tops without an underwire or formed cup) and what doesn’t (one-pieces and anything too cheeky), and you probably know what shapes work best for you. In terms of brands I love, consider Solid and Striped, J.Crew, Marysia, and Mara Hoffman, as I find those brands are well made and fit very well. I also didn’t add sunglasses to this list for similar reasoning; what looks good on you is so dependent on your features and your face shape. My two favorite sunglasses are simple Ray-Ban aviators and a pair of Gucci sunglasses that I purchased a few years ago.

Note: I didn’t want to regurgitate items from the last few edits even though some of them are great resort picks, so head over to The Off 5th Edit and The Mixed Print Edit for some additional picks.

Dresses and Jumpsuits

This is going to be the largest part of the edit because there’s nothing like a dress on vacation. I also threw in a few jumpsuits. There’s a huge universe in this category, so I’m going to try to give you as much diversity as possible at all price points.

If you’re interested in that gorgeous dress I’m wearing above, it’s the Willow Dress by Cult Gaia. It’s currently $384 (50% off).

Separates

Here, I’m just presenting a handful of separates that work so well on a resort vacation. I try to go for easy and comfortable on vacation, and you’ll see a lot of that here.

Bags

I don’t go crazy with resort bags. I usually bring two bags on my trips: a beach tote that doubles as much personal item on the plane, and a smaller straw handbag or clutch. Cult Gaia’s new arrivals in this category are INSANE right now, so I had to highlight a few of them. They are the first three in this category, but they’re pricey. I also included a few less expensive items that I love — including a Target clutch that’s $19.99! — and a few sale items from last season.

Shoes

Shoes are another place where I recommend to edit as much as possible. You can get away with three shoes: one beach shoe, one casual flat sandal, and one sandal that works for evening looks. Heck, you can probably find a sandal that does double duty for day and night. I almost never wear heels on vacation, but that’s my preference, so I’ve added a few pretty heels to the edit as well.

There will be a second resort edit with accessories and coverups, so stay tuned!!!!! Have a great weekend.
