Kitchen Update: Studio McGee Inspo

by Michelle

So, our kitchen table is a mess. How bad? Here’s a picture.

It doesn’t look cool and weathered in person. It looks like all of the stain has come off in places from cleaning, which is exactly what happened. We purchased this table at Restoration Hardware about 6 years ago and it was literally the cheapest model they had, but it’s still frustrating that the finish completely came off. We also got cheap Windsor chairs from Restoration Hardware at the same time and they’re starting to fall apart.

I thought about painting the table and replacing the chairs this summer, but with the kids home, I’ve decided my sanity is worth buying a new table. And, I figured that the camp funds we won’t be using can go towards another table and some pretty new chairs. I searched the internet for an inspiration photo that I could replicate on a budget. This Studio McGee photo felt perfect for my kitchen:

Here’s the table I picked. It’s the MÖCKELBY table from IKEA. It had a similar aesthetic to the table in the picture, the Emory Table, but is $629 compared to $3,200 for the inspiration table.

Note: the Emory table is currently on backorder until August, but if you want a similar, higher quality table than my IKEA pick, McGee & Company does have the Giselle Table ($3,220) and the Gilbert Table ($1,012) in stock.

Next up, finding a good alternative to those gorgeous Madison Chairs. Now, in the grand scheme of chairs, the cost of inspiration chairs ($295) isn’t bad. But, since I’m working on a budget, I’m going with a cheaper alternative, the Wren Chair from Safavieh (currently $187 for TWO). I’m obsessed:

That’s it! I’ll share the finished product when I get everything.
