Hi all! It’s been a very long time since I posted on here. The pandemic world didn’t really motivate me, so I didn’t post. Now that the pandemic seems like a semi-permanent state of being, however, I’ve decided to dip a toe back into the style pool. Not sure how often I’ll add things — I assume it will be series of ebbs and flows depending on my children’s activities — but I’ve really missed having any outlet for my energy. And as our new home reno FINALLY begins, I’m sure I will be posting about home design and decor with some frequency.
Today’s post, however, is all about the western/southwestern style. This aesthetic all about textural embellishment, whether it be fringe, quilted fabric, crochet, or a beautiful indigenous-inspired print/embroidery.
My favorite way to wear this trend is with an editing eye. Otherwise, it can come across as costume-y at best and exploitative at worst. Don’t go full Bonanza; instead pick a special piece and work the rest of an outfit around it. Not sure this is for you but up for trying? Introduce a brown western-inspired boot (ankle boots are the most wearable) or a denim button down into your wardrobe. Those staple items will be forever wearable, so invest in quality. Another way to subtly nod at this trend without making a big investment is to purchase a pretty braided belt with a silver buckle and wear with dresses in your wardrobe. As the weather gets cooler, use it to belt a blazer you already own.
Below are a few of my favorite items out for fall (link in caption). I’ve purchased the ba&sh Mystic Dress (might return it because it’s expensive, but still deciding because it is GORGEOUS) and the Free People On the Range cardigan (also expensive, but I know I will wear it basically every day), but there’s a whole universe of amazing items to explore, from the subtle to the bold.
